Glasgow, 9 November 2021 (TDI): The Prime Minister of Japan, Kishida Fumio met with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Boris Johnson.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 26). The Japanese Prime Minister was in the UK to attend the COP26 Summit.
The two counterparts discussed global warming and the ensuing climate change. They affirmed to continue working together to enhance the Japan-UK relationship; specifically under the ambit of Free and Open Indo-Pacific.

Prime Minister Kishida affirmed to achieve the National Determined Contribution (NDC) to tackle Climate Change. He also highlighted the measures Japan would adopt in this regard. Japan is determined to lead global decarbonization. It is important to promote a clean energy transformation while maximizing the initiation of renewable energy, particularly in Asia.
Both, Japanese and British Prime Minister discussed the investment of Japanese companies in the UK and other collaborative enterprises between Japanese and British businesses. Japan and UK will proceed to collaborate to expand economic relations. The Japanese urged the UK to lift restrictions on imported Japanese food products.
Japan and UK enjoy historical relations encompassing a wide array of areas of collaboration. The two allies cooperate with each other in the domains of defense, economy, technology, and trade.
Both Japan and UK are island states as well as long-term partners of the United States (US). The collaboration between the two is also because of Japan being the partner of the Atlantic Alliance; NATO.
