Tokyo, 12 August 2021 (TDI): On August 11, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Motegi Toshimitsu held a telephone talk with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation H.E. Mr. Lavrov, Sergey Viktorovich. The two Ministers discussed the negotiations on a peace treaty, joint economic activities on the Four Northern Islands, the Four-Island Exchange Program, as well as their bilateral relations.
Both ministers recognized the importance of consultations and cooperation between Japan-Russia ties to address the common concern of climate change as a global issue.
The two Ministers also urged to maintain close communication and discussions at various levels to sustain Japan-Russia relations considering the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
