Islamabad (TDI): The Government of Japan has awarded esteemed MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japan) research scholarships to 11 Pakistani students.
According to the Embassy of Japan in Islamabad, the scholarships would allow the students to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees at prestigious Japanese universities, promoting academic excellence and fortifying bilateral ties.
The Government of Japan announces MEXT scholarships each year to provide fully funded education and research opportunities to graduate and post-graduate students worldwide, including Pakistan.
Every year, several Pakistani students also secure MEXT scholarships by directly applying to Japanese universities.
The Government of Japan continues to offer fully funded undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate scholarships, as well as short-term training programs, to students across Pakistan.

The Embassy of Japan, on Friday, conducted a pre-departure orientation session in Pakistan for scholarship recipients. The session included comprehensive briefings on the program, as well as significant insights and personal experiences shared by Pakistani alumni of Japanese universities.
Ambassador of Japan Akamatsu Shuichi hosted an iftar reception at his official residence in Islamabad to honor members of the MEXT Alumni Association of Pakistan and say farewell to the departing scholarship recipients.
In addition to congratulating the students on their outstanding accomplishments, Ambassador Shuichi extended his best wishes to them as they depart to pursue their education in Japan’s esteemed universities.
He also said that the MEXT Research Scholarship would provide a life-changing opportunity to Pakistani researchers, combining outstanding education with an opportunity to fully immerse themselves in Japanese society and culture.

Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi said, “I hope that the scholars would return to Pakistan with advanced knowledge and enriching experiences, contributing to the nation’s progress and serving as bridges of friendship between Japan and Pakistan, in collaboration with MAAP alumni.”
The Ambassador conveyed his optimism that the scholars would return to Pakistan with advanced knowledge and enriching experiences, contribute to Pakistan’s prosperity, in collaboration with alumni of the MEXT Alumni Association of Pakistan (MAAP), and act as a bridge of friendship between Japan and Pakistan.
In order to strengthen the close links between the two countries, he recognized and valued MAAP’s continuous efforts to promote Japanese educational and cultural activities.
Since the first scholarship recipient visited Japan in 1963, the MEXT Research Scholarship program has benefited several Pakistani scholars. These alumni are currently making significant contributions to Pakistan’s development in the public, private, and academic spheres.
