Islamabad (TDI): For their third stop on the first day, the participants of the 6th International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) reached the Russian Embassy, where they were briefed in detail on how the relations between Pakistan and Russia evolved over time.
Organized by the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS), the three-day 6th International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) kicked off on Tuesday, as the participants arrived at the Austrian Embassy for an inaugural session.
This was followed by an insightful interaction with the ambassador of Zimbabwe to Pakistan, Titus M. J. Abu Basutu, at the country’s embassy. The ambassador shared lesser-known information on the history and culture of Zimbabwe.
At the Russian embassy, the participants were warmly welcomed and enjoyed a guided tour before settling down for a presentation on key events that shape Pakistan-Russia relations today.

The three day school runs under the theme “Building Network of Future Leaders through Public Diplomacy,” and offers an opportunity for students of International Relations (IR) and mid-career professionals to get a direct exposure to the world of diplomacy.
As a yearly program, IYDS has emerged as a unique initiative which supports the public outreach goals of foreign diplomatic missions in Pakistan, all the while imparting a sound understanding on how diplomacy work to the participants.
The school has gained popularity over the years as students and professionals from all over Pakistan apply and aspire to be a part of the annual cohort.
The discussions with the officials of Russian embassy highlighted areas of cooperation, mutual interests, and the broader dynamics shaping bilateral ties. Participants were guided through a visual timeline of Pakistan-Russia relations.

The Russian embassy in Islamabad remains active in student outreach, organizing frequent interactions between embassy officials and students in various universities, in an effort to inform the latter about study opportunities in Russia.
The embassy also focuses on the implementation and accessibility of regular Russian language programs for Pakistani students.
The participants of IYDS had an exciting time learning about Russia’s engagements inside Pakistan through its diplomatic mission.
Established in December 2008, The Diplomatic Insight is Pakistan’s premier diplomacy and foreign affairs magazine, available in both digital and print formats.
