Islamabad, 31 January 2022 (TDI): For the first time in the history of Islamabad, a full marathon of 42.2KM was held with the collaboration of Maroof International Hospital.

The event was jointly organized by Islamabad Run with Us and the Islamabad District Administration. Maroof International Hospital collaborated in the capacity of being the official medical partner of the first-ever Islamabad Marathon.

The hospital thoroughly supported the athletic event as well as the participants by providing an extensive unit of medical personnel including nurses along with first aid supplies and ambulances.

Dr. Arif Alvi, the President of Pakistan along with the first lady, Samina Alvi also participated in the Islamabad Marathon. The duo dropped by to join the event without any prior intimation.

This event included a full Marathon of 42.2KM, a Half Marathon of 21.1K, 10KM, and 5KM categories. There was also a special category race for children under the age of 14.

The marathon runners included people from all over the country as well as the expat community from Islamabad. The winners of the first three positions in all the categories were awarded cash prizes by the Chief Guest, Senator Faisal Javed.

The Senator stated “We are excited to be part of this first of its kind activity in Islamabad. We have always strived to be an inclusive community with people from all walks of life encouraged to participate at our events.”

He further expressed “Today this marathon, like all our other events, also emphasized on a clean and green environment.” Rubina Afzal, the Head of Corporate Business of the renowned hospital also addressed the event.

She underscored that the Maroof International Hospital was providing healthcare facilities to national as well as international patients in Islamabad and that she was happy to say that the hospital is partnering with IRU in Islamabad’s first marathon race.

Moreover, it was a significant milestone in the advancement of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Clean and Green project. Various athletes participated in large numbers and diversity was evident.

Rubina Afzal further enunciated that in the last five years, IRU had produced the best runners and athletes. It did so by overcoming racial, regional as well as linguistic prejudices.
