Doha, 21 June 2023 (TDI): Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian, accompanied by his diplomatic delegation, visited Doha on June 20 after receiving the official invitation from Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad.
This visit marks the first leg of his diplomatic tour to the Persian Gulf states to strengthen cooperation and collaboration among them on issues of mutual concern.
Strengthening Economic Cooperation
Foreign Minister (FM) Abdollahian met with the Qatari Emir at Emiri Diwan and the two leaders explored various means to enhance their bilateral cooperation. He conveyed Iranian President Raisi’s greetings to the Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim.
Additionally, he expressed Iran’s willingness to collaborate with the resource-rich economy of Qatar in diverse domains, imparting a holistic approach to their partnership.
The Iranian FM also stressed the implementation of the previous trade agreements between the two countries. According to Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), the trade between Iran and Qatar is estimated to reach $3 billion by the year 2025.
Their discussion also encompassed the continuation of cooperation and further exploration of partnership in the areas of the economy, investments and bilateral trade by encouraging and catalyzing the economic and commercial efforts of the private sector of the two countries.
Moreover, they underlined the process of convening a session of the Joint Economic Commission aimed at increasing bilateral trade. The joint economic commission of the two countries is planned to be held in Iran in the near future.

The two sides addressed strategies to strengthen their cross-border transportation. They deliberated on the consular relations between them, especially the situation of Iranian citizens imprisoned in Qatar.
Regional and International issues
During the meeting, the two leaders engaged in a comprehensive dialogue touching upon various bilateral political concerns. They also discussed a range of regional and international issues, especially focusing on the efforts to bring stability to Afghanistan in addition to the developments of the Russian-Ukraine crisis.
They encouraged the continuation of the efforts and dialogue between the two countries to ensure stability in the region. They showed their commitment to support the efforts aimed at bringing peace to the Gulf region.
Iranian FM tweeted that Iran’s neighbouring countries enjoy huge economic, trade and political potentialities. He expressed that his visits to Qatar and Oman are aimed at further promoting relations with those countries. He called that the region is experiencing a positive change and is heading on the path of cooperation and collaboration.
Additionally, the Iranian Foreign Minister called for fostering cooperation and the development of a collective mechanism to preserve their joint interests and security among the eight Persian Gulf countries.
