Iranian Foreign Minister and Iraqi Prime Minister hold talks

Tehran, 28 June 2022 (TDI): The Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdolahian, met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi for bilateral talks.

During their meeting, the Foreign Ministers of Iran and Iraq reviewed and shared opinions on recent regional developments. The two dignitaries also discussed topics pertaining to their respective countries’ relations.

In addition, the Iranian foreign minister discussed the cease-fire in Yemen. He emphasized Iran’s support for the ongoing truce and the necessity of ending the country’s humanitarian siege.

Amirabdolahian stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran thinks that problems in the region may be regionally solved.

The Iranian foreign ministry commended Iraq for its helpful participation. He also acknowledged Iraq’s assistance in bolstering the importance of dialogue on regional issues.

He went on and mentioned the discussions between Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Furthermore, Amir Abdollahian stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran only has the region’s best interests in mind. The country backs the reopening of the Saudi and Iranian embassies in their respective capitals.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also mentioned the similarities between Iran and Egypt. He noted that the interests of the Muslim world and the area are served by the strengthened bilateral relations between Cairo and Tehran.

The Iraqi prime minister also ensured the Iranian foreign minister that Baghdad will continue its efforts to strengthen regional dialogue and cooperation.

Iran-Iraq bilateral discussion

During the meeting, Mustafa al-Kadhimi, the Prime Minister of Iraq, also emphasized the place and significance of the Islamic Republic of Iran in regional affairs. This includes areas close to Iraq as well.

The Prime Minister also stated the commitment of Iran and Iraq to deepening their mutual ties. Therefore, the nation keeps up its comforting presence in the area.

Moreover, Al-Kadhimi emphasized the necessity of removing any barriers while urging an all-out extension of relations. He emphasized that he would keep working to improve communication and regional collaboration.
