Tehran, 19 June 2022 (TDI): Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian spoke on the phone with his Omani counterpart, Badr al-Bu Saidi.
In the discussions, they covered the most significant bilateral issues as well as those of shared interest at the regional and global levels.
The Iranian Foreign Minister mentioned the visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Oman. According to him, the visit marked a new turning point in relations between Tehran and Muscat.
The Foreign Minister also stressed the significance of deepening bilateral ties. This was before, from the perspectives of the two government leaders.
He emphasized the importance of continuing and putting into effect the agreements that Iran and Oman established during the visit.
In addition, the Iranian foreign minister further emphasized how committed both parties are to moving on with their collaboration. He emphasized this when a delegation from the government of Oman arrived in Tehran.
The Iranian foreign minister continued by highlighting Oman’s significance in regional developments. He also admired Muscat’s efforts to bring stability and peace to the region.
Furthermore, the top Iranian diplomat also mentioned US President Joe Biden’s impending trip to the region. The diplomat advised policymakers in West Asia to prevent extra-regional nations from influencing regional cooperation and stability.
Call for cooperation
The envoy also underlined the need for dialogue and cooperation in the region. The Iranian foreign minister emphasized that the West Asian countries should determine their own future, he said.
Moreover, Omani counterpart Badr al-Bu Saidi also stressed the fulfillment of the bilateral agreements struck between Iran and Oman. They were reached during President Raisi’s fruitful visit to Muscat.
He claimed that Oman supports the new Iranian government’s strategy of fostering closer connections with the neighboring nations.
The Omani foreign minister also announced the creation of a working group within the Omani government. This is done in order to follow through on the agreements reached with Iran during the Iranian president’s visit to Masqat.
Finally, the two parties in the phone call expressed their appreciation for Yemen’s ongoing cease-fire. The foreign minister of Iran emphasized the need to lift the siege entirely on the people of Yemen.
The Iranian foreign minister also updated his Omani colleague on the most recent advances in the talks to lift the sanctions.
