Iran-Pakistan relations
Pakistan and Iran generally enjoy friendly and cordial relations. The relations between both countries by and large remain positive. Bilateral relations between the two countries are rooted in historical linkages and are based on religious, cultural, and spiritual affiliations.
Iran was also the first country to recognize the sovereign status of Pakistan after its formation in 1947. On the other hand, Pakistan is one of the few countries that sees Iran’s influence positively as per conducted polls.
Both the countries continue to cooperate economically where possible and are forming alliances in areas of mutual interest. On the international stage, Iran remains a strong supporter of the Kashmir cause. Similarly, Pakistan supports Iran in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and shows commitment toward Iran despite US’s unilateral sanctions.
“Border of Peace, Friendship and Love” is the name of the Iran-Pakistan border, given by the leadership of both countries.
