Tehran, 2 November 2021 (TDI): Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh lashed out at Washington for its sanctions against Iran after the withdrawal from the JCPOA.
“The United States, as a violator of Resolution 2231, illicitly pulled out from the JCPOA”. The Ministry also stated that it has forced harsh assents on the Iranian people. Furthermore, the withdrawal keeps Iran out of the exchange and monetary relations with different nations. Hence, “it is incomprehensible that discourse among Tehran and Washington will happen in any organization until these realities change,” he added.
About the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)
The United States reintroduced sanctions against Iran in 2018 after abandoning the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear deal that had lifted financial boycotts as compensation for some intentional limitations on Iran’s nuclear power program.
Following an extended period, Iran turned to its lawful privileges specified in Article 26 of the JCPOA, which allows a party the option to suspend its legally binding responsibilities if there should be an occurrence of resistance by different signatories and let go of a portion of the limitations forced on its Nuclear Program.
