Kabul (TDI): Iran is engaged in discussions regarding the possible formal recognition of Afghanistan’s Islamic Emirate, according to Tehran’s ambassador in Kabul, Alireza Bigdeli.
In remarks to an Afghan media outlet, the envoy said the process of recognition is under consideration and could move forward without undue delay. He suggested that the timing would unfold naturally, expressing confidence that the matter would not remain unresolved for long.
Bigdeli stressed that there are no internal barriers within Tehran to recognition, adding that Iran has already established what he described as close and fraternal ties with Afghanistan’s current authorities. He noted that cooperation between the two sides has expanded across political, economic and security sectors, even in the absence of formal diplomatic recognition.
The ambassador also highlighted that Iran maintains a high-level diplomatic presence in Kabul and that engagement with Afghan authorities enjoys full backing from senior officials in Tehran, including the country’s president. He said the relationship is being strengthened through practical collaboration and regular dialogue.
