Tehran, 11 June 2024 (TDI): The foreign ministry of Iran has slammed statements by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) meeting in Doha, Qatar on 10th June 2024.
Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry deemed the remarks about Iran’s nuclear program and territorial integrity as detrimental.
Additionally, he reiterated Iran’s autonomy over its three islands; Abu Musa, the Greater and Lesser Tunbs in the Persian Gulf. Furthermore, the spokesperson said that Iran strictly adheres to international law and realizes its international obligations and responsibilities.
He further stated, “The Islamic Republic of Iran considers any claim on the three mentioned islands as interference in its internal affairs and territory and strongly condemns it.”
To reach a durable agreement, Nasser Kanaani suggested a return to technical and legal negotiations. Mutual respect and good neighborliness should be the foundation of this agreement. He said that there is no legal basis for unilateral claims about the Arash Field.
While defending the territorial integrity of Iran, he said, “We suggest that the Kuwaiti officials refrain from turning to futile political and media tactics on the legal and technical issue of the Arash joint field.”
The spokesperson reiterated Iran’s commitment to cooperation and engagement in the area. He praised initiatives that were constructive in bilateral and global cooperation.
160th PGCC Ministerial Council Meeting
Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister, Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman presided over the Ministerial Council meeting. Several regional and global issues were covered including the Gaza crisis. Ministerial committee findings and memoranda were also discussed at the meeting.

Moreover, discussions about strategic ties between the GCC countries and other nations were also held. By improving contacts and strategic conversations among GCC nations, the summit sought to increase collective security and safety.
