Astana, 23 November 2022 (TDI): The representatives of Iran, Russia, and Turkiye had the 19th international Meeting on Syria in Astana Format.
The Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria and the Syrian opposition also attended the meeting. Alexander Lavrentiev, Special Envoy of the Russian President to Syria, led the Russian mission.
While Ali Asghar Khaji, Senior Advisor to the Iranian Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs, headed the Iranian delegation. Representatives from the UN, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq also attended the meeting as observers.
The situation in Syria, supporting Syria’s democratic process, and mobilizing international assistance in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions were discussed at the meeting. Representatives passed a joint statement.
Remarks in the joint statement
The representatives of Iran, Russia, and Turkiye analyzed recent international and regional developments in the Syrian conflict. They stressed the leading role of the Astana Process in the peaceful resolution of the conflict.
Moreover, they directed the agreements signed by the Tripartite Summit of the Astana Process guarantor countries on July 19, 2022.

The leaders were determined to work together to fight terrorism and oppose separatist agendas that threaten Syria and its neighbors.
The representatives agreed to step up efforts to achieve stability and to enhance the humanitarian situation there and nearby. Furthermore, they condemned the attacks of Israeli militants in the civilian infrastructures of Syria.
The leaders also emphasized the vital role of the Constitutional Committee established in support of the decisions made by the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi.
It was established as a result of the significant contribution of the Astana guarantors, in advancing the political settlement of the Syrian conflict.
The representatives emphasized the necessity of removing the hurdles and expanding humanitarian aid to all Syrians nationwide.
In addition, they reaffirmed strengthening trilateral coordination in various fields in order to promote joint political and economic cooperation.
Lastly, they expressed their gratefulness to Kazakhstan’s authorities for hosting the 19th International Meeting on Syria in Astana. They also decided on holding the 20th International Meeting.
