Islamabad, 23 July 2022 (TDI): Iran’s Special Representative to the President on Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi Ghomi, discussed the significance of close coordination on Afghanistan-related issues between Pakistan and Iran with the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.


The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to an Afghanistan that is tranquil, stable, prosperous, and interconnected.

He emphasized the value of Pakistan and Iran working closely together on issues about Afghanistan, such as refugee management, regional security, and institutional frameworks.

Bilawal Bhutto further highlighted the Afghan government’s humanitarian aid from Pakistan in the wake of recent attempts to provide aid following the terrible earthquake that struck Eastern Afghanistan on June 22, 2022.

According to the Foreign Minister, it is crucial to maintain positive dialogue and active cooperation with the interim government of Afghanistan as it would advance the goal of long-term stability and security in the region.

Furthermore, he underlined the importance of regular exchanges to develop economic and trade relations, energy cooperation, regional security, and connectivity.

Regarding Bilateral ties, the Foreign Minister highlighted Pakistan’s strong desire to continue fostering ties with Iran, which are firmly anchored in shared religious beliefs, historical links, and cultural affinity.

Remarks of the Iranian Special Representative

Envoy Hassan Kazemi Ghomi remarked that relations with Pakistan were highly valued in Iran.

He commended Pakistan for its constructive role and effective engagement in Afghanistan. He emphasized the importance of Afghan peace and stability as those are necessary prerequisites for development and prosperity in the long run.

The Foreign Minister and the Special Representative agreed upon establishing regional connectivity and coherently attending to the issues applicable to Afghanistan.

The Iranian Special Representative previously met with his Pakistani counterpart, Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq, where they spoke about the evolving situation in Afghanistan.

Along those lines, they emphasized the value of pursuing ongoing and effective engagement. They also overviewed several trades and connectivity initiatives in the region.
