Türkiye-Ecuador Bilateral Relations

Bilateral Relations between Türkiye and Ecuador are advancing in a positive direction. Both countries share a common will to develop relations further. They see each other as close-friendly countries.

Although diplomatic relations between the states were established in 1950, relations have gained momentum, especially in recent years. The opening of mutual visits and embassies played an essential role in this.

Ecuador opened an embassy in Türkiye in 2009, consequently, Türkiye’s embassy in Quito was also opened in 2012. In addition, Türkiye has an honorary consulate in Guayaquil, and Ecuador has an honorary consulate in Istanbul.

Ecuador’s Former President Correa’s visit to Türkiye on 15th March 2012 was the first visit at the presidential level. Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the first visit of this level from Türkiye to Ecuador on 3rd February 2016.

Türkiye’s humanitarian assistance after the 2016 earthquake and investments of local companies in Ecuador contributed to relations between the two countries.

Negotiations for the signing of a “Trade Agreement for Development” between Ecuador and Türkiye are ongoing.
