Iran offers to host emergency OIC meeting on Palestine crisis

Tehran, 11 October 2023 (TDI): The Islamic Republic of Iran, through its Permanent Mission in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, has extended an official letter to the OIC secretariat.

The letter expresses Iran’s willingness to host an extraordinary meeting of Foreign Ministers from the organization to address the critical situation in Palestine.

Iran’s Permanent Mission conveyed the gratitude of Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to OIC Secretary General, Hissein Brahim Taha for their productive discussions on the developments in Palestine.

In the official letter, Iran declared its full readiness to host the emergency ministerial meeting of the OIC, recognizing the urgent need to address the ongoing crisis.

Here is the text of the official letter;

In the wake of the phone call on Monday, October 9, 2023, between the Honorable Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amirabdollahian, and the Honorable Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, regarding the heinous crimes committed by the Zionist regime against Palestinian civilians, particularly in the Gaza Strip.

We would like to express Amirabdollahian’s appreciation for the opportunity to engage in discussions with the honorable secretary general and his constructive negotiations on the matter.”

Iran’s Foreign Minister expressed his deep concern and abhorrence for the criminal actions perpetrated by the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people, citing them as clear instances of war crimes and genocide.

He strongly condemned the extensive military and aggressive actions by the Zionist regime, which have tragically resulted in the martyrdom and injury of hundreds of Palestinian children, particularly infants, children, and women.

In addition, Amir-Abdollahian conveyed his appreciation to Hissein Brahim Taha for the timely condemnation of the regime’s actions and emphasized that the apartheid and child-killing regime is responsible in this context.

Recognizing the high sensitivity of the situation, the Foreign Minister stressed the urgency for the OIC to promptly address this critical matter at the highest possible level.

Moreover, he underlined Iran’s full readiness to host the emergency meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC in Tehran, as soon as the first suitable opportunity arises.

It was decided that the proposal would be formally submitted to the secretariat in writing.

Likewise, Iran requested that the OIC secretariat promptly initiate necessary consultations with the member states of the organization concerning Iran’s proposal & communicate the final outcome to the Iranian Mission to facilitate the necessary procedures.

Iran has underscored the need for swift international intervention and diplomatic action to address the escalating crisis in Palestine.

In this vein, it has emphasized the significance of a united response from Islamic nations in defense of Palestinian rights and in seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
