Iran-IAEA Hope to Resolve the Nuclear Issues

-

Tehran, 6 March 2022 (TDI):  Iran aims to address all remaining issues and concerns with the visiting United Nations nuclear head, in the latest drive to resuscitate a 2015 nuclear deal between the Islamic Republic and international powers.

In return for the lifting of economic sanctions, Tehran and Washington have undertaken more than 11 months of direct-indirect discussions in Vienna on reviving the pact, which limits the enrichment of Iran’s uranium to make it harder for Tehran to build material for nuclear weapons.

According to a spokeswoman for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Behrouz Kamlavandi, it is expected that general problems between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding pursuing other prospective situations in the future will be examined. In this regard, an agreement will be made.

According to spokeswomen, Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi has arrived in Tehran. His meeting has been arranged with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian before flying to Vienna in the afternoon.

Grossi’s visit has bolstered Iran’s expectations for progress on one of the final stumbling blocks to reviving the nuclear agreement which was abandoned in 2018 by former US President Donald Trump, who also reimposed the drastic sanctions on Iran.

Since 2019, Tehran has gotten through the limits of the nuclear deal and gone well beyond on rebuilding stockpiles of enriched uranium, refining it into higher fissile purity by installing advanced centrifuges to speed up the output.

All parties participating in the discussions in Vienna aimed at bringing Tehran and Washington back into conformity with the nuclear accord indicated they were close to achieving an agreement.

Resolution efforts made by the IAEA are the one wildcard to clarify the doubts and concerns regarding nuclear material that the Vienna-based agency suspected that Iran has failed to declare.

The IAEA has poised the processed uranium particles at three ostensible old locations that Iran never had disclosed and has repeatedly said that Tehran has not provided the satiable and sufficient answers.

According to Iranian authorities, Tehran and the IAEA may be agreed on a plan to address the outstanding implications, perhaps paving the way for a unanimous deal.

Head of IAEA Rafael Grossi says that there are matters that still needed to be resolved by Iran. The restoration of the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and global powers will be impossible until Tehran resolves the issues with the IAEA.
