6th International Young Diplomats School 2025 Kicks Off

Islamabad (TDI): Organized by the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS), the three-day 6th International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) has kicked off, on Tuesday.

Running under the theme “Building Network of Future Leaders through Public Diplomacy,” the school offers an opportunity for students of International Relations (IR) and mid-career professionals to get a direct exposure to the world of diplomacy.

The participants of IYDS learn from interactive sessions with career diplomats, foreign ambassadors, country representatives of the United Nations and its various member agencies; during visits that are curated to impart a sound understanding of how diplomacy works.

Through expert-led discussions, workshops, and real-world case studies, participants gain valuable insights into diplomatic methods and foreign policy formulation.

This year, a cohort of participants is visiting the embassies of Austria, Zimbabwe, Russia, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, and the High Commissions of Britain and Mauritius.

The Ambassador of Austria to Pakistan, Wolfgang Oliver Kutschera, is hosting this year’s inaugural session at the Austrian residence.

Participants will also visit the Delegation of the European Union in Pakistan, in addition to visiting the offices of United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and International Labor Organization (ILO).

During the last Diplomats School in 2024, the cohort observed election process at the Indonesian Embassy, was briefed about the relations between Pakistan and Finland by the Finnish Ambassador, received certificates at the British High Commission, and had a meaningful interaction with the Thai Ambassador who elaborated on the role of Muslim community in Thailand.

IPDS organizes the Young Diplomats School every year to support public diplomacy outreach of the diplomatic missions of various countries based in Pakistan.

This program allows embassies to interact with Pakistani professionals and young students from various regions of the country. This allows both sides to interact and develop an understanding of Pakistan, the respective country, perceptions on each side, and perceptions around the bilateral relations.
