New York, 7 December 2022 (TDI): The world observes International Civil Aviation Day on 7th December. The day acknowledges the special contribution civil aviation makes to building a global network of fast transit.

Moreover, it aims to increase understanding of the significance of global civil aviation and the function of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in global air travel.

Theme 2022

International Civil Aviation Day is given a special anniversary theme by the ICAO Council every five years to coincide with the organization’s anniversaries.

Representatives from the Council decide on a single subject for the entire four-year interval that occurs between these anniversary years.

The Council chose the following theme for the 2019 celebrations of ICAO’s 75th anniversary: “75 Years of Connecting the World.”

The Council has agreed that the topic shall be “Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development” from this point forward until 2023.

The United Nations (UN) acknowledges that international travel is crucial to maintaining world peace and prosperity.

54 countries ratified the Chicago Convention, commonly known as the Convention on International Civil Aviation in 1944. The convention ratifies the safety, registration, and airspace regulations.

The Day was founded in 1994 as part of the ICAO’s 50th-anniversary celebrations. The idea was that as civil aviation continues to advance, it will enable people and nations to come together and form friendly relations.

Following that, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) advised states to take the necessary actions to recognize this day.

ICAO organizes activities and events, including seminars, educational sessions, and press releases about civil aviation-related subjects on this day.
