Beijing, 5 December 2022 (TDI): The Chinese government awarded Prof. M. Iqbal Choudhary the Chinese Government’s Friendship Award.

At a formal ceremony conducted at the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad, the award was given by Ambassador Nong Rong, China’s ambassador to Pakistan. Prof. M. Iqbal Choudhary is a Director of ICCBS and Coordinator General of COMSTECH.

China’s highest honour for foreign experts who have made remarkable contributions to the country’s economic and social advancement is the Chinese Government’s Friendship Award. The State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA), an arm of the State Council, chose the recipients of this prize.

The prize, which consists of a medal and an award certificate, is presented as part of the festivities commemorating China’s National Day on October 1.

Prof. Iqbal Choudhary has been instrumental in fostering Sino-Pakistan cooperation in research and technology, including the development of institutions in several areas. This includes the national virology institute at the PCMD, working with the Wuhan Institute of Virology China.

A notable medicinal chemist around the globe is Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary. In addition to 76 books and 40 chapters in books published by prestigious US and European presses, he has 1,175 research papers in the fields of organic and bioorganic chemistry published in international journals. He now holds 40 US patents.

Choudhary’s work has been cited over 30,000 times by researchers all around the world, and his h-index is 80. Under his mentorship, 94 national and international researchers have completed their PhD degrees.

He has been elected a fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, the Islamic World Academy of Sciences, the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the Chemical Society of Pakistan.

Choudhary has received the Khwarizmi International Award from the President of Iran, the ECO Award in Education from the President of Azerbaijan, and the COMSTECH Award in Chemistry from the Prime Minister of Pakistan. He is the Mustafa (PBUH) Prize winner. In 2004, HEC named him a “Distinguished National Professor,” and the University of Karachi named him a “Meritorious Professor” in 2013.

Prof. Choudhary holds a C. Chem, a D.Sc., and a Ph.D. He has received the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz awards from various Pakistani administrations.
