Islamabad, 19 December 2021 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with his Indonesian counterpart, Retno Mersudi on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, in Islamabad. The Indonesian Foreign Minister is in the country to attend the 17th OIC Summit hosted by Pakistan.
The two counterparts discussed the wide-ranging bilateral relations between Indonesia and Pakistan. They jointly underscored the significance of the regular high-level interaction with the aim to further strengthen mutually beneficial collaboration in all spheres.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi also expressed the desire to advance the relationship to strategic collaboration. Moreover, he shared the perspective of Pakistan regarding the prevalent situation in Afghanistan.
He accentuated the significance of sustained engagement to facilitate stability and peace in Afghanistan as well as the region. The Foreign Minister of Pakistan stressed that there is a need to meet the pressing humanitarian needs of the Afghan people.
The two Foreign Ministers also deliberated upon the role of the OIC towards fulfilling the aforementioned goals. Indonesia and Pakistan are the two largest democracies of the Islamic world. In that regard, the two also exchanged views on how they can collaborate for constructive outreach with Afghanistan.
This would entail engagement through Women Parliamentarians as well as the Ulema for dialogue on Islamic ethos of moderation, and human rights including women’s rights. Prominent women Parliamentarians of Pakistan also attended the meeting.

Earlier she also met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa to discuss issues pertaining to the mutual interests of the two countries.
The Indonesian and Pakistani Foreign Ministers acquiesced to maintain close communication for the advancement of common objectives in bilateral and multilateral spheres.
