India’s ‘New Normal’ Unacceptable: Pakistan

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan on Friday rejected India’s claim that recent military attacks had established a “new normal” in their tense bilateral ties, insisting that respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity remains the only acceptable standard in international relations.

The remarks by Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan came amid a fragile ceasefire agreed upon on May 10 following India’s Operation Sindoor and Pakistani response codenamed Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.

Pakistan strongly condemned the attacks as a violation of its sovereignty.

“While New Delhi propagates the notion of establishing a ‘new normal’ in Pakistan-India ties, our restrained response has reaffirmed that the only acceptable norm is respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Khan said at the weekly press briefing.

He said that Pakistan’s effective counterattacks have reinforced the credibility of its deterrence and dispelled any illusions of India’s conventional superiority or its ambitions to impose hegemony in the region.

The spokesperson highlighted Islamabad’s commitment, stating “Pakistan, as a responsible country, remains committed to the ceasefire and to taking necessary measures towards de-escalation and regional stability.”

He said that due to India’s belligerent posture, we demand our global partners to ensure that New Delhi honors its commitments and refrains from further aggression. Should India resume hostilities, Pakistan will have no choice but to respond.

On Friday, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh described the attacks against Pakistan as “just a trailer, will show full picture, if need be,” signaling New Delhi’s willingness to escalate.

As a big blow to India, China also announced to rename 27 places in Arunachal Pradesh, a region India claims as its own.

Khan expressed support for China, stating, “We have noted this development regarding China’s renaming of some areas within Arunachal Pradesh. Pakistan reaffirms its consistent support for China on matters of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
