Tehran (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, said that the Deputy Head of United Nations nuclear watchdog will visit Iran to reestablish ties, since the ’12 day war.’
As a protest to Israel and United States’ attacks on Iran, the country cut all ties with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the inspections teams had to leave the country as the decision was made official by Iran’s Parliament.
For this visit, there will be no inspections, only an ice-breaking visit, planned for today. “As long as we haven’t reached a new framework for cooperation, there will be no cooperation, and the new framework will definitely be based on the law passed by the Parliament,” Araghchi said about the visit.
Iran is eyeing a new cooperation framework with the IAEA, after being angry over the Agency for not protecting its nuclear sites from US attacks.
In the attacks that brought a halt to the confrontation, US targeted three nuclear sites of Iran. The Iran-Israel confrontation in June disrupted the talks that were ongoing between Iran and the US, to reach an agreement over the nuclear issue.
As a protest, Iran suspended all cooperation with the IAEA. The nuclear watchdog earlier had been authorized to conduct regular inspections of the country’s nuclear sites, to keep a check on uranium enrichment levels.
