Heroes’ Day 2021 in Namibia

-

Windhoek, 26 August 2021 (TDI): Namibia celebrates heroes’ day every year on 26th August. This day is celebrated for those who sacrificed their lives in the Namibian War of Independence.

The struggle for independence lasted for over 23 years where over 11,000 Namibians lost their lives. Namibia received formal independence as the Republic of Namibia in March 1990. In this regard, hundreds of people gather annually, and honors like military medals are handed out on this day.

Hage G. Geingob, the President of Namibia, said that this day is not only significant for the Namibian struggle for independence, but also it represents the struggle for the liberation of the entire South African region.
