SAPM Haroon Akhtar to Represent Pakistan at Expo 2025 in Japan

Islamabad (TDI): Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, will travel to Japan on August 12 to represent Pakistan at the Pakistani Pavilion in Expo 2025 in Osaka.

The forthcoming visit comes after a meeting in Islamabad with the Japanese Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi, who invited Haroon Akhtar to visit the international event.

During the meeting, both officials discussed ways to deepen economic engagement between Japan and Pakistan.

Haroon Akhtar is also expected to meet senior Japanese government representatives, including the Foreign Minister, to explore opportunities for trade and industrial cooperation.

Talking about his visit, Haroon Akhtar said that the upcoming visit is an opportunity to enhance bilateral relations and invite Japanese investment in Pakistan’s industrial sector.

He appreciated Japan’s technological prowess and work ethic, adding that Japanese products have a worldwide reputation for their quality and reliability.

He also outlined Pakistan’s new economic policies, including an Industrial Policy and a New Energy Vehicle Policy, both of which he said are aimed at improving the investment environment and encouraging international cooperation.

In addition, he said the time is ripe for Japanese businesses to consider expanding into Pakistan’s market. Expo 2025 Osaka, set to take place from April to October, will have the participation of more than 150 countries under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”

The purpose of the event is to promote innovation and cross-border collaboration by displaying national progress in culture, technology, and sustainable development. Pakistan will have a chance to showcase its cultural heritage, investment opportunities, and industrial potential.

For many years, Japan has been one of Pakistan’s most important development partners, supporting its infrastructure and human development initiatives.

Both countries have shown their interest in reviving economic cooperation; however, bilateral trade is still quite small by regional standards.
