Bangkok, 9 September 2022 (TDI): The Global South-South Development (GSSD) Expo 2022 will be co-hosted by the Government of Thailand and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

The event is scheduled to take place from 12 to 14 September 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand.

This year’s GSSD Expo theme is “Advancing South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable COVID-19 Recovery: Towards a Smart and Resilient Future”.

About the Expo

This year it will be the 11th GSSD Expo. The Asia-Pacific region will be hosting the event for the very first time. Like every year, United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) is organizing the annual GSSD Expo this time as well.

The GSSD Expo aims to facilitate discussion on how South-South and triangular cooperation can best support recovery efforts. It addresses extreme poverty, food insecurity, vaccination inequality, and other global challenges.

Moreover, GSSD Expo identifies, showcase, and facilitate the creation and strengthening of specific multi-stakeholder South-South and triangular cooperation initiatives. They have the potential to contribute significantly toward a speedy recovery.

Additionally, GSSD Expo reviews and discusses development policies and capacity-building efforts. It introduces remedial measures through South-South and triangular cooperation methodologies at the national, regional, and global levels.

In addition, Southern countries and regions are developing strategies, plans, and cooperation initiatives to facilitate sustainable development. It includes the Belt and Road Initiative championed by China, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTFA), and Agenda 2063 of the African Union.
