Government to Strengthen CCP; Minister

Islamabad (TDI): During his visit to the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP), State Minister for Finance and Revenue, Mr. Ali Pervaiz Malik, underscored that he will ensure support Government to Strengthen CCP.

He also highlighted that it the Commission’s duty to avert market failure and protect consumers from anti-competitive practices.

Mr. Malik’s visit illustrated the Ministry’s dedication to enhancing the CCP’s efficacy through legislative revisions, court case monitoring, and capacity-building initiatives.

During a discussion with CCP officials on Wednesday, he emphasized the imperative of rigorously reviewing the Competition Act to ascertain its continued relevance, efficacy, and modernity, while also addressing the challenges confronting the Commission.

In addition, Market competition is crucial for protecting consumer interests. Furthermore, it attracts investments and facilitates the establishment of new enterprises,” asserted Mr. Malik.

Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu, the chairman of the CCP, briefed the Minister on the Commission’s responsibilities, encompassing its performance, activities, and current inquiries in critical economic sectors.

Dr. Sidhu highlighted the challenges confronting the CCP, including legal impediments.

Minister Malik pledged assistance to the CCP in surmounting its challenges. In addition, He also pledge to support Government to strengthen the CCP.

He requested a comprehensive database of all active court cases and stay orders for prompt attention by the Attorney General and the Law Ministry.

To ensure the effective safeguarding of consumer interests, the Minister instructed Dr. Sidhu to maintain close collaboration with the Finance Ministry.
