Male, 8 August 2022 (TDI): The Government of Maldives strongly condemned the airstrikes in the occupied Palestinian territory of Gaza by Israel, as per a press release issued by the Maldivian Government. The attacks on the Gaza strip resulted in many civilians losing their lives and many others getting injured.

The Israeli airstrikes hit residential apartments as well as militant watchtowers and outposts. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, these airstrikes have resulted in 44 deaths and many others getting injured.

 

According to the press release issued by Maldives Government, it stated, “The Government of the Maldives and Maldivian people convey its sincere condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims of the Israeli aggression in Gaza”.

The government of Maldives also showed deep concern regarding Israel’s disproportionate use of force against Palestine.

The Maldivian Government further shed light on the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories by calling it a gross violation of international law and relevant United Nations Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.

The solution to the Gaza conflict by the Maldives

The government of Maldives also went on to suggest a solution for the everlasting Israel-Gaza conflict. The Government indicated that “resolution of the conflict can only be realized through a two-state solution”. The Government also called for an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In addition, the Maldivian Government reiterated its solidarity and support with the people and Government of Palestine. The Maldivian Government also showed its readiness and steadfast commitment to work closely with the international community to advocate the cause of Palestine.
