Beijing, 25 July 2024 (TDI): The signing of a declaration by 14 Palestinian factions in Beijing was met with approval, and global leaders commended the Beijing Declaration and China’s efforts in pushing it.
Hamas stated on Tuesday that the signing of the Beijing Declaration on Ending Division and Strengthening Palestinian National Unity is a positive step towards achieving Palestinian national unity. They believe it is the ideal and most suitable national solution for the Palestinian situation following the conflict.
During a routine daily briefing on Tuesday, Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, expressed the Secretary-General’s strong approval of the signing of the Beijing Declaration by the Palestinian factions.
Describing the agreement as a significant advancement in promoting Palestinian unity, Dujarric emphasized that the secretary-general urged all sides to resolve their disagreements through discussion and to fulfil the commitments made in Beijing and the signed declaration.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated on Tuesday that the consolidation of different Palestinian groups through the Beijing Declaration is a vital measure in achieving the rights of the Palestinian people.
“I sincerely hope that this expression of solidarity will lead to concrete outcomes and endure future obstacles,” he stated.
According to Abdel Mohdy Motawe, a Cairo-based researcher and executive director of the Middle East Forum for Strategic Studies and National Security, the talks in Beijing included 14 Palestinian factions, each with their perspectives carefully considered. This serves as a foundation for resolving the conflict.
Abu Bakr Al-Deeb, an advisor to the Cairo-based Arab Center for Research and Studies, stated that including all Palestinian forces and factions in the institutions of the Palestine Liberation Organization is a crucial measure to end division and enhance national unity.
China’s genuine commitment to supporting the rights of the Palestinians, resolving internal divisions, and fostering unity among Palestinian factions has been praised by world leaders and scholars.
Hossam Badran, a member of Hamas’s political council, commended China for its significant efforts in reaching this proclamation. He emphasized the timeliness of this news, given the ongoing battle faced by Palestinians, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
Dujarric, the UN spokesperson, stated that Guterres conveyed his gratitude for China’s diplomatic endeavours and the efforts of other nations involved in supporting the process.
According to Al-Deeb, the signing of the declaration signifies a significant achievement in Chinese diplomacy. It demonstrates China’s efficacy and its intention to improve relations with the Middle East region, while also showing support for Arab causes, with a particular focus on the Palestinian dilemma.

Baris Doster, an academic from Marmara University in Istanbul, stated that China’s expanding diplomatic prowess and significant presence in the Middle East highlight its ability to produce effective solutions, showcasing its increasing respect and influence.
Motawe stated that China, known for its commitment to diplomacy, negotiations, and constructive actions, is anticipated to play a more significant and extensive role in addressing the Palestinian issue and other Arab matters in the Middle East.
