Aim of the Partnership
The program aims to address the problem of climate protection in Georgia. It, therefore, intends to cover all schools throughout Georgia and therefore, offer better learning conditions for students and teachers.
The Georgian Building sector is responsible for 40 percent of energy consumption. It also produces a third of the country’s Carbon dioxide emissions.
Public buildings like schools are often heated with outdated gas and coal heaters and therefore, insulation is rare. The program also aims to provide energy security for Russia’s southern neighbors.
Signatories of the Partnership for the energy-efficient renovation
The partnership was signed by Birgit Holderied-KreB, KfW Regional Director, Svenja Schulze and the Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Kutsishvili. They met and held a signing ceremony in Dzalisi, Georgia.
“………… Russia uses energy as a means of exerting pressure. The right answers to this are renewable energies and energy efficiency. Because they make it independent of Russia’s fossil imports and fluctuating world market prices for coal, oil, and gas. This also applies not only to us but also to Georgia and Armenia”, said Schulze.
Following the signing ceremony, Schulze will also visit a company in Armenia on Friday that changes production in a climate-friendly manner.
The company also receives funds from BMZ for renewable energies and energy efficiency.
Schulze also suggested that the Bundestag gives another 27 million for the modernization of the energy sector.
