Islamabad, 28 July 2022 (TDI): Global Business Alliance (GBA) Executive Committee members met Ambassador of Italy in Islamabad today and discussed exploring the possibilities of increasing trade and economic cooperation in diverse areas.
Ambassador of Italy to Pakistan Andreas Ferrarese while talking to the delegation members said that there are tremendous opportunities for both sides to build close economic and trade cooperation.
Ambassador provided insight about the business opportunities in Italy and larger European markets for the products and services where Italy can be a large support for Pakistani products.
Pakistan-Italy Trade Ties
Pakistan and Italy have strong bilateral ties. Italy is one of the top trading partners with Pakistan and is the third largest in overall EU. Italy supported Pakistan to acquire the EU Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP-Plus). Trade relations between Pakistan and Italy have been improving with the passage of time.
Both sides have strong trade, economic, cultural and diplomatic ties. Italy is supporting Pakistan in modern machinery for agriculture, marble, textile and footwear. Apart from that livestock including agriculture products and services , processed food and the construction sector through transfer of technology. It is estimated that during the Year 2021 the overall trade volume contracted due to COVID pandemic disruption and Italy imported goods of worth 902.88 US$ million as against exports of 714.29 US$ million in the same period last year recording an increase of 26.40 %.
