Libreville, 2 August 2022 (TDI): The Africa Climate Week (ACW) 2022, will take place in Libreville, Gabon from August 29 to September 2nd. ACW 2022 will engage and empower stakeholders to drive climate action across countries, communities, and economies.

The registrations are open for this year’s ACW. The Africa climate week 2022 is a crucial step on the road to COP27 in Egypt. ACW 2022 is to be hosted by the government of Gabon.
The event is organized by UN Climate Change in collaboration with its international partners, the UN Development Program, UN Environment Program, and the World Bank Group.
Whereas the partners in the region include the African Union, the Africa Development Program (ADP), the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and UN Gabon.
In addition to that, key players, including African Ministers, will be gathered at ACW 2022 to create a platform for regional cooperation. To combat climate change, the event will address common risks and will examine shared opportunities.
The discussions about the implementation of the Paris Agreement at the regional level will advance with the participation of governments, development organizations, youth, and civil society.
Remarks by the Official and Local Dignitaries
According to UN Climate Change Deputy Executive Secretary, Ovais Sarmad, trust is a crucial element of success when it comes to achieving agreements and collaborations.
He emphasized that climate change must be fought in unity and looked forward to new alliances and strengthening current ones.
Moreover, he added that ACW 2022 is going to make significant advancements toward the COP27 conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, in November.
Tanguy Gahouma, Special Advisor to the President of Gabon, put ACW 2022 into perspective for the future of Africa. He said that climate change is the world’s greatest challenge, and its repercussions are already being seen in Africa and throughout the world.
Furthermore, in order to face this challenge collaboratively, leaders, stakeholders, and scientists are going to be together in Gabon for ACW 2022.
He reaffirmed that the Paris Agreement has given a clear mandate for action and as a result of the Glasgow Climate Pact, a common set of guidelines to accelerate action together has been put forth.
Finally, he added that the Africa Climate Week 2022 is the opportunity to build momentum ahead of COP27 in Egypt this November.
