G7 Leaders address Global Issues at Italia 2024 Summit

The G7 Italia 2024 released a 36-page report highlighting the topic discussed in the two-day Summit held from 13 June 2024 to 14 June 2024 in Apulia, Italy. The Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission were present with the G7 Countries at this summit.  

Group Seven’s leaders include the USA, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and Canada. These G7 countries focus on global economic and Monetary issues. Every year, one member becomes the leader of this group on a rotating basis, and this Summit is held on a rotating basis in G7 countries. For Instance, the 2024 G7 Summit was held in Italy, and the 2025 G7 Summit will be held in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada.

The G7 Countries were known as the Group of Eight (G8) when Russia was also a member, addressing world issues with other G7 countries. Russia was removed from the G8 Countries when it annexed Crimea from Ukraine. Then, the G8 Countries became the Group of Seven (G7) Countries.

The G7 Countries gathered in Apulia, Italy, to address various global issues, such as the Ukraine-Russia War, Palestine-Israel War, African issues, and other regional issues. Moreover, they discussed different Monetary and economic policies, agreed to work on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to reduce the poverty rate, and worked on 16 other goals, such as Climate issues, education, Health, etc.

Furthermore, the 36-page report highlights that G7 countries address the threat of artificial intelligence and launch an action plan for using AI according to the rules of the International Code of Conduct for Organizations Developing Advanced AI Systems.

G7 Countries Address the Ukraine Issue

G7 Countries condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine and agreed to provide unwavering Support to Ukraine in the form of Military, humanitarian, Budget, and reconstruction support. Moreover, they highlight that this war exceeded the cost of USD 486 Billion, According to the World Bank, and they want Russia to pay for this damage.

Moreover, G7 Countries have agreed to provide $50 billion to Ukraine for its defense against Russia. They also used Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) loans, which will reimburse the currency attained from Russian assets frozen in various states. G7 countries also confirmed that all the Funds are dispersed efficiently to fulfill Ukraine’s needs in this war situation.

The G7 countries supported Ukraine according to the Bilateral and defense agreement and commitment based on “the Joint declaration endorsed in Vilnius in July.” Moreover, they condemned Russia’s war against Ukraine, which violates the UN Charter, and installing nuclear missiles in Belarus is also a violation of International Law.

Further, G7 countries aim to impose Monetary sanctions on Russia and other countries who support Russia in this War.

This report details how the G7 + Ukraine Energy Coordination Group worked with other Ukrainian establishments and international communities to support Ukraine. This coordination will address 3.4 million displaced cases in Ukraine, which is needed.

The G7 countries supported the “Summit on Peace in Ukraine which was held on 15-16 June in Switzerland and supported President Zelensky’s Peace Formula objectives.”

Palestine Issue

The G7 countries are committed to providing support to Israel and condemn Hamas’s actions as they believe that Hamas is using civilians in this War. They believe that Israel has the right to defend itself according to the International Humanitarian Law. Moreover, they call on the Civilian casualties during the Palestine and Israel War.

Moreover, they backed the three-phase Ceasefire Proposal led by the Biden administration, which aimed to maintain an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, release hostages, and provide humanitarian assistance. The G7 recognized the UNSC Resolution S/RES/2735, 2024, and called on Hamas to accept the deal.

The G7 committed to providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza and opening the borders for sending humanitarian aid to Gaza, including the Rafah crossing and Ashdod Port. They also supported humanitarian organizations such as UNRWA during the War.

The Group of Seven Countries also articulated their concern in Rafah and urged Israel to stop its Military Operational actions in Rafah, Palestine. They also welcomed the new Palestinian Authority and called on Israel to stop its action against Palestinian authority. And committed to maintaining economic stability in the West Bank, which will maintain peace and security in the region.

Lastly, they agreed to work on the two-state solution, which will reduce the chances of war between Palestine and Israel and will help to maintain Peace and Stability in the region.

G7 Cooperation with Africa

The G7 countries have agreed to work together with the African countries to maintain peace and prosperity in the region as they are committed to aligning their efforts with African countries with the African Union Agenda 2063.

The Group of Seven supports African countries in becoming a greater voice in the international community. They also agreed to support the G20 to “compact with Africa.”

The G7 and PGII promote economic development and endorse supportable efforts in Africa. They also supported “Italy’s Mattei Plan” for Africa and agreed to support democracy and work for human rights in Africa.

They also provide different packages for coordination with the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and other international organizations.

Economical Security

According to the report, G7 Countries are taking various steps to improve economic security and flexibility.

  • Safeguarding the World or Global Research and agreeing to open different research collaborations.
  • Monitoring Natural Minerals such as lithium, Cobalt, and other rare elements.
  • Using technologies for two purposes, such as civilian and Military work, such as Quantum Technology, is like using a code language for confidential purposes.
  • The G7 Countries have also agreed to confirm “Foreign Investment Screening.”
  • The Group of Seven also addressed technological issues such as AI, Dual-Use Biotechnology, and many others.
