Jeddah, 26 January 2022 (TDI): Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, Sohail Mahmood met with the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha. The meeting took place at the Headquarters of the General Secretariat of OIC in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

During the meeting, the Foreign Secretary highlighted the proactive role of Pakistan as the founding member of OIC along with its dedicated espousal of the causes of the Muslim Ummah. The two dignitaries also deliberated upon issues pertaining to cooperation between Pakistan and OIC.

Aside from that, the ongoing humanitarian crisis and violations of International Law in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) by India as well as the prevailing situation in Afghanistan were also on the agenda of the meeting to be discussed.

Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, Sohail Mahmood also discussed the issue of Islamophobia as well as the preparations for the 48th OIC-CFM that will be hosted by Pakistan in March this year.

Hissein Brahim Taha

Hissein Brahim Taha is a Chadian diplomat. In 2017, he briefly served in the Government of Chad as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He is also the present Secretary-General of the OIC.

Organization of Islamic Cooperation

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation was formerly known as the Organisation of the Islamic Conference. It is an international organization that was established in 1969. The organization consists of 57 member states.

The Headquarters of the OIC is located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. OIC is the second-largest inter-governmental organization in the world after the United Nations (UN).
