Beijing, 9 January 2024 (TDI): On Tuesday, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi outlined China’s diplomatic agenda for 2024, emphasizing that China will remain confident and self-reliant, and act as a responsible major country.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, spoke at a symposium on the global situation and China’s foreign relations in 2023.
Key highlights of China’s diplomatic agenda 2024 involves:
Global Action for Shared Development
Wang stated that China will leverage the strategic guidance of head-of-state diplomacy and work hard to make the events such as the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, the Boao Forum for Asia, the China International Import Expo and the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development successful.
Protection of sovereignty, security and interests
According to Wang, China will resolutely protect its sovereignty, security and development interests, and work for a conducive external environment for its new development model and high-quality development.
Solidarity over division
He also said that China will steadfastly fulfill its duties on major issues related to the solidarity, collaboration and lawful rights of developing countries and the global issues that affect the future and fate of humanity and the course of world development.
Wang stated that China will adhere to openness and inclusiveness and enhance and broaden the network of global partnerships.
Strengthening of US-China relationship
Wang stated that China will follow the agreement reached by the leaders of China and the United States in San Francisco, and strengthen strategic trust and cooperation with Russia to solidify their comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era.
China will enhance high-level dialogue and strategic consultation with the EU to foster the stable and lasting development of their relations.
Mutual trust and common interests
The country will keep expanding friendship, mutual trust and common interests with its neighboring countries, cooperate closely with other developing countries, join forces with the BRICS countries, and advance the construction of a new type of international relations, he said.

Openness over isolation
Wang stated that China will also carry out the Global Civilization Initiative, foster the shared values of humanity, encourage dialogue and learning among civilizations, and enhance mutual understanding and friendship among people from all nations.
Justice over power politics
He said China will always stand for fairness and justice, support the creation of an equal and orderly multi-polar world, practice true multilateralism, advance democracy in international relations, and respect the equality of all countries.
He urged all countries to jointly adhere to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, protect the universally accepted basic norms of international relations, and join in the reform and development of the global governance system.
He said China will fully execute the Global Security Initiative, maintain fairness and justice, actively facilitate peace talks, play a positive role in resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Ukraine crisis and other global and regional issues, and offer more public goods that benefit world peace and development.
Multilateralism over unilateralism
Wang stated that China will keep pursuing mutual benefita and actively advancing inclusive economic globalization that helps everyone, promising to resolutely resist any kind of unilateralism, protectionism and anti-globalization.
Cooperation over confrontation
He said it will also carry out the results of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, improve the standard of cooperation, broaden the scope of cooperation, and keep offering new possibilities for the world with China’s new development.
