Islamabad, 13 December 2022 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto will undertake an official visit to the United States (US) from 14 to 21 December 2022, Foreign Office released the statement today.

Whilst there, Foreign Minister will do multilateral engagements in New York and bilateral engagements in Washington DC during his official visit to the US, the statement noted.

On 14 December, he will meet United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and participate in a high-level debate at the UN Security Council.

The theme of the debate will be “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: New Orientation for Reformed Multilateralism”, the statement noted.

According to Foreign Office, on 15-16 December 2022, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto will also host and chair the Ministerial Conference of G-77+China 2022. It is the largest negotiating bloc of developing countries within the UN system.

The agenda of the Conference includes a discussion on multiple challenges facing developing countries in attaining Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, climate-induced disasters, and geopolitical developments.

Bilateral Engagements

On December 19, Foreign Minister will travel to Washington DC where he will hold a bilateral meeting with high-level government officials and congressional leaders, Foreign Office said.

Other than government-level engagements he will meet Pakistani-American businessmen and community members. He will also engage with think tanks and media.

According to the statement, Foreign Minister will discuss bilateral and regional issues with mutual interest to carry forward the momentum in Pakistan-US bilateral relations particularly in areas of trade, investment, climate resilience, & economic development.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will share Pakistan’s perspective on climate change and sensitize his interlocutors during different engagements on the huge damage inflicted by climate-induced floods in Pakistan and the post-flood reconstruction and rehabilitation plan of the Government of Pakistan.

Before this, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto recently completed a visit to Indonesia and Singapore held from 7-9 December 2022. During this previous visit, he held meetings at the bilateral level and participated in multilateral forums in Indonesia.
