Foreign Minister Pakistan meets Foreign Minister Japan

New York, 24 September 2021 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, met with Foreign Minister of Japan, Motegi Toshimitsu. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The meeting marked the discussion of mutual interests along with regional and global dynamics. Both the leaders also exchanged views on the emerging situation in Afghanistan. They agreed on the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan. Furthermore, they expressed their shared commitment to preventing Afghanistan from becoming a terrorists’ foothold.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan gives high importance to its relationship with Japan and considers it as a crucial development partner. The Foreign Minister said that the tremendous economic success of Japan is a model to follow.

The Foreign Minister of Japan thanked Pakistan for accepting aircraft of the Self-Defense Force. This significantly facilitated the evacuation of Japanese nationals and embassy staff from Afghanistan.

Both the leaders agreed to further strengthen the bilateral relationship in all domains.
