New York, 24 September 2021 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, met U.S Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The meeting marked the discussion of bilateral relations and the situation in Afghanistan. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan will provide all-out support establishment of peace in Afghanistan. He added that Pakistan will also facilitate the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
Furthermore, the Foreign Minister reiterated that it is the ‘moral obligation’ of the international community to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people. He said that the world should not repeat mistake of disengagement with Afghanistan. The Foreign Minister stated that continued engagement with Afghanistan is the only way forward.
The Foreign Minister also apprised the U.S Secretary of State about the human rights violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir. He said that the resolution of Kashmir dispute is necessary for security and peace in South Asia.
The U.S Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts for peace in Afghanistan. He also hailed Pakistan’s assistance in the evacuation of U.S citizens and other personnel from Afghanistan.
Both leaders pledged to further strengthen the bilateral relationship in all domains including trade, investment, and energy.
