Islamabad, 16 May 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will be visiting the US at the invitation of US’ Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

He will be going to New York for the Ministerial meeting on the “Global Food Security Call to Action.” The meeting will be held at the United Nations (UN) on 18 May 2022.

The Ministerial meeting aims to bring a regionally diverse group of states together to address the issue of food security. These states will also include those that are most affected by food insecurity as well as those capable to address it.

During the meeting, the Ministers of the respective countries will talk about humanitarian essentials along with long-term developmental measures that are needed to build resilience and save lives for the future.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will also attend the Open Debate of the UN Security Council (UNSC). The Open Debate is on the “Maintenance of International Peace and Security – Conflict and Food Security.”

It is scheduled under the US Presidency of the Council on 19 May. While there, the Foreign Minister will underline Pakistan’s perspective and policy preferences in the two sessions.

During his stay in New York, he will also conduct a bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken along with other important engagements on the sidelines.

Global Food Security Call to Action

The US is hosting the Ministerial meeting to address global food insecurity. The meeting will bring together a group of 30-35 countries.

Aside from that, on May 19, Secretary Blinken will preside over the first event of the United States’ presidency of the UN Security Council.

It will be focused on issues like food security, conflict, and the Russia-Ukraine war as well as the impact of these issues on food insecurity.
