Athens, 28 October 2021 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi visited Greece. He met with his Greek counterpart in Athens. Nikos Dendias, the Foreign Minister of Greece warmly welcomed Chinese Foreign Minister in Athens.

The two counterparts discussed the bilateral relations in the meeting. They discussed the ways to expand their cooperation in trade and investment. Cultural and tourism cooperation was also part of their meeting’s agenda.
They also debated on security-related issues. Recent developments in the Mediterranean region were also discussed. They also talked about the situation in Afghanistan. Greek Foreign Minister also discussed the European Union’s (EU) relations with China
The Chinese Foreign Minister emphasized Greece joining the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) of China. China is building a Piraeus port in Greece under the BRI project. China is working on connecting Europe with Asia through Greece. He also talked about the construction of a new energy hub of liquified has station in Alexandroupoli. Greece is looking forward to strengthening its relations with China by increasing cooperation in different fields. China also helped Greece during the Coronavirus pandemic by providing vaccines.
They also talked to expand their economic relations. The establishment of the Piraeus port in Greece by China will help to boost the economy of Greece. In the later part of the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers emphasized enhancing cultural and tourist cooperation. Cultural and tourist cooperation are interlinked with each other. Therefore, they can also help to enhance bilateral cooperation. The also talked about the Winter Olympics which are going to be held in Beijing, China.
In his visit, the Chinese Foreign Minister also met with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. They also agreed to enhance the bilateral cooperation between the two states. The two countries enjoy good relations. This year they are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Greece’s strategic location has huge importance for China which is aiming to connect Europe with Asia through Greece.
