New York, 22 September 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov participated in the informal meeting of the Council on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) on Thursday.

The meeting was held under the framework of the high-level week of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. This meeting was chaired by Kazakhstan.

The Informal Meeting of CICA

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan talked about how the need for regional engagement and collaboration is expanding in the current times.

The escalating threats to international security, stability, and economic development are the main reasons for such expansion.

In this regard, the minister expressed how CICA is a crucial forum for fostering communication and teamwork. The platform contributes to promoting trust and preserving the safety and prosperity of the region.

The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan said in his speech highlighted the ways to ensure regional and global security as well as stability. He said it is necessary to promote respect for the norms and principles of international law.

He particularly highlighted the need to promote sovereignty, territorial integrity, and inviolability of borders. The Minister underlined the cruciality of the CICA procedure for putting confidence-boosting measures into action.

In this regard, the Foreign Minister stated that Azerbaijan is actively promoting transit and transportation between the CICA member states. Azerbaijan is doing so within the framework of confidence-building measures for safe and practical transport corridor systems.

The Foreign Minister also said that the state is proud to coordinate in the CICA, as well as advance the East-West and North-South transport and transit corridors.

In this context, he emphasized the importance of opening the Zangezur Corridor as soon as possible. The border will contribute to peace and stability in the region. It will also help in the development of local, inter-regional, and trans-regional trade.
