Berlin, 11 September 2021 (TDI): Foreign Minister Heiko Maas release a statement today about the anniversary of 9/11 terrorists attacks. On the 20th anniversary of the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks, Foreign Minister Maas and Germany mourn alongside America. Grieving with those who lost friends and family members that day, as well as others who were badly hurt or traumatized. That terrible day will never be forgotten.
That attack was directed not only at the United States but at each and every one of us. The over 3000 individuals who died that day were from 92 different nations, 11 of them were from Germany. The truth is that chronic instability, extremism, and terrorism, even in more remote regions of the world, will impact us all at some point.
Much of what has occurred since that day requires serious consideration. Recent events in Afghanistan have served as yet another stark reminder of this. We owe it to ourselves to be truthful, but we also owe it to the many individuals who have fought tirelessly for Afghanistan’s progress over the years to be fair. Their dedication was and will always be significant and meaningful.
