European Day of Languages 2021

-

Zagreb, 26 September 2021 (TDI): Today marks the 20th anniversary of the European Day of Languages. Since the proclamation by the Council of Europe in December 2001, it has aimed to encourage excellence and innovation in language learning and diversity across Europe.

Marija Pejčinović Burić, Council of Europe Secretary-General, emphasized that all voices matter and that collectively, they can overcome linguistic and cultural divides in their societies. This contributes to the plurilingualism and intercultural understanding among young and old people and takes exceptional pride in their languages.

In celebration of 20 years of linguistic and cultural diversity, there is a wide range of activities across European countries, including France, Estonia, Norway, Slovenia, Serbia, Slovakia, and Italy.
