Foreign Minister Jilani receives call from Iranian counterpart

Islamabad, 24 February 2024 (TDI): Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani received a telephone call from his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

Iranian Foreign Minister, on behalf of the leadership and people of Iran, congratulated the caretaker government on the successful conduct of Pakistan’s parliamentary elections in 2024.

Foreign Minister Jilani deeply appreciated the warm wishes from the brotherly people of Iran.

Reflecting on close fraternal ties between the governments as well as the peoples of Pakistan and Iran, the two Foreign Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.

Since the visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister to Pakistan earlier this month, the two countries have fully restored official engagements.

Highlighting the strong fraternal ties between Pakistan and Iran, the Foreign Minister emphasized Pakistan’s eagerness to collaborate with Iran on the principles of mutual trust and cooperation.

Pakistan-Iran Diplomatic Collaboration

Earlier this week Foreign Minister Jilani and his Iranian counterpart highlighted the importance of respecting territorial integrity and sovereignty, the Foreign Minister underscored that these values should serve as the foundation for their collaboration.

Both Foreign Ministers concurred on the necessity to enhance working-level cooperation and foster close coordination on counterterrorism and other shared concerns. Furthermore, they reached an agreement to de-escalate the prevailing tensions.

Additionally, the discussion encompassed the reinstatement of Ambassadors from both nations to their respective capitals, indicating a step towards normalizing diplomatic relations.
