Islamabad, 7 September 2021 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, welcomed his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio on Monday, 6th September. The two officials exchanged views on the present situation in Afghanistan and on the bilateral relations between Italy and Pakistan.
On Afghanistan, FM Qureshi expressed his views that the engagement of the international community in Afghanistan is critical. They should work to fulfill the humanitarian needs of the Afghan people and for the economic prosperity of Afghanistan. He also mentioned Pakistan’s stance on Afghanistan, that it wishes to see a politically inclusive settlement and a state with secure rights, the dignity of people.
On bilateral relations, Shah Mahmood appreciated Italy’s support for Pakistan on the matters of Generalized System of Preferences GSP Plus and ”Financial Action Task Force” (FATF). He further highlighted that the presence of 150,000 Pakistani diasporas in Italy helps to build stronger relations between the two countries. They both resolved to strengthen multifaceted cooperation between Italy and Pakistan.
