First Session of Pakistan-Cambodia JTC Held in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh (TDI): The historic first session of the Pakistan-Cambodia Joint Trade Committee (JTC) commenced on Tuesday in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations.

The session was co-chaired by Nasir Hameed, Additional Secretary of Commerce from Pakistan, and Pich Rithi, Secretary of State, Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia. It included detailed discussions on mutual interests, including trade, health, banking, agriculture, aviation, and customs.

Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan represented Pakistan and highlighted the country’s strategic location, growing economy, and investment-friendly policies.

The minister invited Cambodian businesses to explore agriculture, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and tourism opportunities.

Jam Kamal stated that the government of Pakistan was working to improve the ease of doing business and highlight its potential as a gateway to key markets in South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

His Cambodian counterpart appreciated his presence in the inaugural JCT and called for frequent bilateral engagements.

Rithi thanked Jam Kamal for the invitation and said she was looking forward to visiting Pakistan for the second JTC meeting in Islamabad.

She also highlighted Cambodia’s extensive market access within the ASEAN region, encouraging the exploration of joint ventures to leverage regional opportunities.

It was mutually agreed that a focal person would be appointed to speed up the negotiations for the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and cooperation.

The two sides also agreed to share trade-related information, organize trade delegations, and facilitate direct engagements between the business communities of both countries.
