Brdo, 11 September 2021 (TDI): The informal meeting between EU Finance and Economy Ministers of the Eurogroup gathered in Brdo, Slovenia on September 10, 2021. The meeting was chaired by the President of the Eurogroup Paschal Donohoe. The ministers exchanged their views and lessons from the impact of COVID-19 across economic sectors and regions.
In the meeting, Andrea Ammon (Director of the European Centre for Disease Control) provided an update regarding the COVID-19 epidemiological situation in the euro area. Following the discussion of the Eurogroup’s economic situation with Irene Tinagli (Chair of the European Parliament’s committee on economic and monetary affairs). The coordination between European Central Bank, Commission, and Eurogroup had improved its development in the euro area including different institutions and EU citizens, Donohoe added.
Then the Ministers shared their lessons and views on the implications of the pandemic in the medium-term. Considering the policy actions which are necessary to avoid divergences. Moreover, these discussions were supported by the European Commission on the issue of convergence in the euro area.
Furthermore, in the post-COVID recovery period, the Eurogroup discussed their facilitation of the corporate restructure and economic adjustment in the euro area. Following their previous agreement regarding monitoring solvency and restructuring needs. Donohoe reaffirmed their efforts to help the euro area’s economic recovery, moving from a general approach to a more targeted one.
In the last, according to the brief of the European Central Bank (ECB), they will launch the ECB Governing Council in July 2021 to pursue an investigation phase of the digital euro project.
