EU Strongly Condemns the Attack on Iraqi Prime Minister

Brussels, November 10, 2021 (TDI); Mustafa al –Kadhimi, Prime Minister of Iraq safely survived a laden drone attack. He called for ‘claim and restraint’. The European Union, Iran, and the United States strongly condemned the attack.

In that sense, Joseph Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of EU about Foreign Affairs and on Security Policy in an issued statement condemns the assassination attempt on Prime Minister Mustafa al –Kadhimi of Iraq in Baghdad. In this line, the attempt was made in the security zone area. That’s considering the safest zone in Iraq, according to the reports six bodyguards were found injuries in the assassination attempt.

After the electoral process of October 10, 2021, and assuming the charge of the Iraqi Prime Minister Office. Hence, this assassination attempt could increase the fault lines and tensions in the Iraqi political system. The turnover in the elections, reported just 41%, that’s shows mostly Iraqi’s not ensured about any real change.

The attack was also condemned by the strong Shia Muslim cleric opponent leader Moqtada al-Sadar, according to him, that’s a terrorist attack with the aim to put the Iraqi state in chaos, and controlled it by non–state forces. Barham Saleh, the President of Iraq also issued a condemnation statement on Twitter.

On behalf of the European Union, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy said violence is unacceptable. That Is the fifth electoral process and political government post-United States-led invasions in Iraq 2003.

After the assassination attempt Prime Minister Mustafa al –Kadhimi called for ‘Calm and Restraint’, security officials are investigating the incident meanwhile, the drone attack was widely criticized.
