Ljubljana, 28 August 2023 (TDI): Following a visit to the areas impacted by recent floods in Slovenia, EU Council President Charles Michel expressed his heartfelt solidarity with the Slovenian people and reassured the nation of the European Union’s unwavering support.
In his press remarks after touring the affected region, President Michel commended the courage displayed by the Slovenian people and applauded the determined leadership of Prime Minister Golob.
During his visit, President Michel had the opportunity to witness firsthand the challenging situation on the ground.
He also acknowledged the complexity of the challenges Slovenia faces due to the floods and emphasized the EU’s commitment to providing practical assistance.
President Michel highlighted the European Commission’s pledge to allocate €400 million as an initial step towards addressing the crisis.
He underlined that this commitment is just the beginning and that both the EU Council and its member states stand ready to contribute further to Slovenia’s recovery efforts.
The outpouring of support from fellow European Union members and partners, including Ukraine, was noted by President Michel.
He emphasized that while such assistance is crucial, it is essential to ensure that the Slovenian people are not forgotten in the face of adversity.
The EU’s commitment to Slovenia’s recovery extends beyond the immediate aftermath and remains steadfast into the future.

In his address, President Michel stressed the importance of investing in the country’s reconstruction and preparedness.

President Michel expressed his admiration for the resilience of the Slovenian people and the effective leadership of Prime Minister Golob.
He conveyed a message of unity from the EU, assuring the Slovenian people that they have a multitude of friends across Europe who stand by their side during this challenging time.
