Brussels, 17 September 2021 (TDI): Vice President and High Representative Josep Borrell remarked in the State of the European Union address on Wednesday that the world’s center of gravity is shifting toward the Indo Pacific, both geo-economically and geopolitically. The EU’s and Indo Pacific’s future are inextricably interwoven.
In the Indo-Pacific area, the EU is already the largest investor, the most active development partner, and one of the most important commercial partners. Our participation seeks to keep the Indo-Pacific free and open for all while forming strong and long-lasting relationships to collaborate on issues ranging from the green transition, ocean governance, and the digital agenda to security and defense.
From trade and investments to research and innovation, as well as sustainable development, climate change, biodiversity preservation, and security, the EU and the Indo-Pacific are strongly intertwined, with many common interests and strong relationships.
